Transitions and Pedagogy Research

The Transitions and Pedagogies RPA supports a  research focus on pedagogy/ies at the time of educational transitions. It draws  on a broad conceptualisation of pedagogy as the professional practice of  educators, including but not limited to the building and nurturing of  relationships, curriculum decision-making, teaching and learning. In addition,  it regards pedagogy as influenced by cultural, political and social values as  well as images of children and childhood which are, in turn, underpinned by a  range of theoretical and practical bases.

The major aim of the Transitions and Pedagogies  RPA is to provide contexts and promote synergies to enhance research quality  and quantity and build strong research and researchers through.

  • providing a collaborative research forum;
  • encouraging research dissemination;
  • promoting the publication of high quality research outputs;
  • building the research capacity of both individuals and groups associated with the RPA; and
  • fostering engagement with researchers at CSU, across Australia and internationally.

The major focus areas of the Transitions and  Pedagogy RPA are:

  • exploring national and international perspectives of the pedagogies of educational transition, particularly at the time of transition to school;
  • examining pedagogical practice that integrates prior-to-school and school curriculum frameworks; and
  • investigating approaches to mathematics pedagogy as children start school.
