Janelle's occupational history includes teacher of music and English, dance and drama, lecturer in counselling and psychological theory, tutoring in theology and ordained ministry. Janelle's professions moved from teaching into counselling and psychology into a vocation to priesthood. Amongst Janelle's qualifications is a PhD, thesis entitled "Human Suffering and the God who suffers with us: A Trinitarian Theology", and a Master of Psychology (Clinical), thesis entitled "Sexuality and Anglican Clergy".
Janelle's previous professional experience includes responsibility for the Counselling Service of Anglicare-SA in Adelaide as Senior Counsellor and supervisor of Master of Psychology students on placement, while also working in private psychology practice. From 2003 – 2012, Janelle worked as a District Priest in the Anglican Diocese of Willochra in SA, responsible for ten communities in the Southern Flinders as well as station folk. During this time, Janelle undertook a considerable amount of pastoral counselling of people in rural South Australia, who presented with a variety of personal, spiritual and mental health issues, as well as supporting elderly people through life transitions. Janelle also worked part-time for Uniting Care Wesley in Pt. Pirie, SA, as a consultant psychologist. Janelle is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, shortly to complete requirements for full membership of the APS Clinical College as well as Clinical endorsement with the Australian Board of Psychology. Janelle holds an ATO licence in the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn, and also conducts a private psychology practice on the South Coast of NSW.
