The Friends of Ireland (FOI) or Cairde na hEireann in the Irish language was founded in 1985 in Canberra, We reflect the deep interest of many people in the Canberra region and surrounds in their Irish origins and in the links between Ireland and Australia.
The society seeks to promote a better understanding of modern Ireland (both North and South) and of the distinctive contribution that the Irish have made to the Australian way of life.
Each year FOI holds an Ecumenical Service for the Feast of Saint Patrick at The Chapel of the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture in Barton ACT. This year we are very privileged to have as our guest speaker the Hon Senator David Smith (Australian Labor Party)
The Hon Damien English, the visiting Irish Minister, will also be attending. He is Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government .
The service will commence at 12 noon on 17 March 2019. All are welcome.
