Design Historian and Maker, Fashion and Textiles
My creative practice includes the design and production of textiles. Specifically, the layering of found fabrics, and moulage into patterns then finished garments. I am particularly interested in traditional techniques of the 1940s and 50s, including embroidery techniques, such as smocking, applique and thread work.
I have recently started my PhD which explores the gender distinction associated with the craft aesthetic, in a professional, domestic and educational context. I am a Member of the Association of Dress Historians (UK), currently reviewing a publication on ‘A Cultural History of School Uniform’, and I am collaborating on a book chapter exploring the gender distinction of Jurassic Park franchise with reference to costume.
