Nushrat is pursuing her Higher Research Degree (PhD) in Creative Writing at the Faculty of Arts & Education, Charles Sturt University. Her Ph.D. thesis explores gender performance and multiple identities of female characters from South Asian backgrounds. Nushrat is a lecturer (on study leave) in the School of Communications, Language & Literature at Fiji National University in Suva, Fiji Islands. She is an active researcher with a keen interest in literature, post-colonial literature, gender, feminism, and voices, focusing on gender performativity. Her master’s thesis delved into the voices and silences of female characters in post-colonial literature. She published a semi-autobiographical book (2021), The Girl with a Mirror–A Collection of short stories that explore women’s voices, identity, and empowerment. Nushrat has published research articles focusing on women’s voices, and her journal article “Madwoman in the Post-colonial Era” is being used as a required reading/part of literature courses at various universities in Europe. Her short stories have been featured in a Canadian feminist magazine. A dedicated member of the Society of Women Writers NSW and the Australian Women’s and Gender Studies Organisation, she also serves on the editorial board of some international Humanities & Social Sciences journals.
