Mystical Approach to the Qur’anic Story of Prophet Isa (Jesus) through the Exegesis Ruh al Bayan by Ismail Haqqi Bursawi
Ismail Haqqi was a prominent scholar of the late 17thy and early 18th century in the Ottoman Empire. Renown for many of his works, still will be remembered by his exegesis (tafsir) of the Qur’an, Ruh al Bayan, a comprehensive and significant contribution to the field in Haqqi’s time and after him up to nowadays. Since he belonged to the mystical (Sufi) school of thought and exegesis, being very influenced by Ibn Arabi and his (Haqqi’s) teacher Fazli Osman, this remains well- reflected in his work. Bearing in mind that Haqqi is relatively unknown and unresearched and his commentaries on Jesus’ life, miracles, especially eschatological role contained in the Qur’an are of a special value, I have decided to approach it through my research, casting a bit of light on this magnificent scholar and his scholarly contribution.
I already did my Master of Arts (Classical Arabic) with Charles Sturt a couple years ago and honestly did not have any dilemmas regarding through whom I was going to do my further studies. Arabic and Islamic exegesis have been subjects of my interests for years and through this program I can receive everything that one needs for good quality studies: academic support, flexibility, access to literature, peer support, appropriate feedback and valuation.
