Seminar 3: Teacher professionalism in the age of compliance

Seminar 3: Teacher professionalism in the age of compliance

Tuesday 25 August 7.00 – 8.30pm AEST

Register

The focus of discussion in this seminar will be on the changing nature of teacher professionalism in systems increasingly shaped by performativity, surveillance, scripted curricula and efficiency logics. Panellists will be asked to share their concerns about the erosion of professional judgement alongside the exhaustion and moral injury many educators are experiencing, while also exploring possibilities for reclaiming intellectual, ethical and relational forms of professionalism.

Key discussion points:

  • What is happening to teacher professionalism in contemporary education systems?
  • How are accountability and standardisation reshaping teaching?
  • What is lost when professional judgement is replaced by fidelity and compliance?
  • What might it mean to reclaim education as intellectual and deeply ethical and creative work?
