Lucie has over thirty years of teaching experience working in the early childhood, primary, secondary and tertiary education sectors as an educator and researcher.  Prior to her work in tertiary education, Lucie was a classroom teacher and had various school leadership roles including acting deputy principal, year coordinator, and K-12 special needs coordinator in metropolitan Sydney. While at CSU, Lucie has received multiple university teaching awards including a Faculty of Education Teaching Excellence Award, the Vice-Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award, and a CSU Faculty of Education Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning team award (with the inclusive education teaching team). Lucie is also the only CSU academic staff member to have been nationally recognised for her teaching excellence through both an individual and team Australian Award for University Teaching citation. Lucie’s individual citation was For sustained teaching expertise in inclusive education and child development that engages, challenges and inspires student learning, with a team citation the following year as a member of the inclusive education team - For sustained commitment to capacity building, change agency and bringing research to scale through evidence-based approaches to educational design, learning and teaching in Inclusive Education (Bain, Zundans-Fraser, McDonagh, Lancaster, Auhl & Newell).

Lucie has a strong commitment to undertaking research that is informed by practice, to ensure that her work is evidence-based and directly informs teaching, policy, and decision‑making. Lucie’s books include Rising to the challenge of transforming higher education (2016) and The self-organizing university (2017) both led and co-authored by Alan Bain, informed by their leadership experiences with whole of university learning and teaching change processes. Lucie has also had two chapters published in Design for change: Designing evidence-based teacher preparation programs (2024, edited by Alan Bain) on the future of teacher preparation. In 2025, Lucie and her colleague Will Letts had a chapter on the ‘Affordances and dilemmas faced by middle managers in the context of casualisation’ published in the edited book by J. Harris, N. Spina, K. Smithers, J. Blackmore, & S. K. Gurr (Eds.), Casualisation, the gig economy, and piece work in education: Dilemmas for leaders in times of increasing precarity. Lucie also has a forthcoming chapter about the intersection of inclusion, theory and practice on early childhood initial teacher education course design in Devi, A., Cutri, J. & Kewalramani, S. (eds) Pedagogy, curriculum & professionalism: International perspectives in early childhood initial teacher education. All her book and chapter publications have been with Q1 publishers. 

Lucie’s research supervision has included doctoral students researching in inclusive education and school practice and over 20 students enrolled in the Master of Inclusive Education and the Master of Education. Lucie is an external examiner (cross institutional) for Honours, Masters (Research) and doctoral dissertations.
