Leanne is a respected leader, educator, and advocate in early childhood education, currently serving as a Senior Lecturer within the School of Education at Charles Sturt University. Teaching across the Bachelor of Education (Birth to 5), Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary), and Master of Education programs, Leanne brings a wealth of real-world insight and academic rigour to her students and colleagues.

An excellent Honours and doctoral supervisor, Leanne has successfully mentored several research students through to completion and publication. Her supportive, research-informed guidance continues to inspire emerging scholars and contribute to the growing body of knowledge in education.

With a career spanning teaching, leadership, public policy, and sector-wide reform, Leanne’s professional journey reflects a deep commitment to children’s rights, advocacy, and the development of effective leadership within education. Prior to joining CSU in 2022, she held roles as teacher and director in early childhood education settings, as well as senior advisory and management positions across local, state, and federal government. She has also led large-scale national professional development initiatives and served as CEO of a peak sector body, where she led impactful advocacy, competency-based training, and sector-wide innovation.

Leanne is an accomplished author, podcaster, and not-for-profit board member. Her voice is widely respected in conversations about leadership, equity, and systems thinking in early childhood education—making her a powerful force for change and a dedicated mentor to the next generation of educators.

As a Senior Lecturer with the School of Education Leanne teaches subjects in the Bachelor of Education (Birth to 5), Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) and Master of Education Programs.

Leanne’s primary research interests are in leadership, management, public policy children’s rights, and advocacy.

Leanne is currently working on an Australian Research Council Linkage Project Exemplary Educators at Work. This project has 7 industry partners. In this project, researchers from Macquarie University, Queensland University of Technology, and Charles Sturt University are identifying the practices of exemplary educators and the conditions that make those practices possible.

Leanne continues to research the emergence and cultivation of leadership within education.
