Dr. Sabrina Syed, also known as Sabrina S. Shejuty, is an emerging researcher dedicated to advancing equity and inclusivity in education. Her work addresses intersectional discrimination, progressive pedagogy, and inclusive policies, aiming to create equal opportunities for diverse learners. Sabrina completed her Bachelor’s in secondary mathematics, physics and chemistry, and a master’s in educational psychology.

After five years as a lecturer in Dhaka, she moved to Newcastle, Australia, in 2017 to pursue a PhD, focusing on women’s experiences in higher education and the intersectional disadvantages they face. While in Newcastle, she contributed to gender and education research projects, taught as a sessional academic, and volunteered in local schools.

Sabrina has published widely in academic and public platforms. She recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Mathematics education and joined Charles Sturt University in 2025, specialising in educational psychology and science education.

Sabrina brings a wealth of experience to Teacher Education, teaching a range of subjects including EED409, EED422, EEA406, and EEA501.

As a qualified secondary teacher in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, Sabrina has taught at several universities since 2012 and worked in secondary schools both in Australia and internationally. She skillfully integrates her extensive classroom and research experience into her teaching, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. This approach ensures that future educators are well-prepared to thrive in real-world educational settings.

Sabrina's research interests lie in educational psychology, sociology of education, and science education. Her work focuses on addressing intersectional discrimination and advancing equity in education, with a particular emphasis on inclusive teaching practices, gender equity, and progressive pedagogies.

She is also interested in exploring the experiences of underrepresented groups in higher education, the role of socio-cultural factors in learning, and innovative approaches to teacher education and professional development.

Her Current Projects:

  • Analysis of Factors Influencing Major Selection by Students at Universities in Australia and Vietnam
  • Exploring the Intersectional (Dis)Advantages Faced by HDR Students in Australia
  • Development of Professional Identities Among Mathematics Teachers
  • Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia (HERDSA)
  • The Australian Association for Research in Education (AARE)
