Profile

Dr Melanie Innes is a Workplace Learning Coordinator and Lecturer in the Faculty of Arts and Education at Charles Sturt University. Melanie's career in teaching began as a secondary History and Society & Culture teacher. Her later doctoral studies focused on the challenge of new media to understandings of literacy in history, and the potential of history education in preparing students for democratic citizenship in the 21st Century. Her research calls for a more dynamic understanding of literacies in curriculum and teacher training to incorporate critical media literacies within secondary subject syllabuses - focusing on the evaluation of reliable information, as well as the incorporation of texts more likely to be encountered in real-world settings. Additionally, Melanie is the Administrative Editor of Historical Encounters journal.
