Andrew is an experienced Academic administrator.  He has worked in a number of roles including Head of School, Deputy Head of School and Course Director, most recently at the University of Technology Sydney. He has a special interest in promoting students’ welfare and soft skills including resilience and cultural intelligence.  He has promoted International student and staff mobility and has chaired student conduct committees.

Andrew has taught subjects in Cultural History, German and Australian Studies.

Andrew has published widely on music and sound in both German and Australian contexts and on Australian-German colonial entanglements.  Recent monographs and edited volumes include Free Action: Jazz as Catalyst in West German Arts and Culture (2025), Remembering German-Australian Colonial Entanglements (2020); and Ludwig Leichhardt’s Ghosts: The Strange Career of a Travelling Myth (2018).  Andrew’s article on soundscapes of Australian exploration ('Whistling the Death March? Listening in to the Acoustics of Leichhardt's Australian Exploration', AHS 50, no. 2 (2019)) was shortlisted for the Pat Grimshaw Prize in 2020. His work has been supported by a range of funding bodies.  Andrew is currently working on a cultural history of listening in remote Australia.
