Tena koutou katoa, ko Dr Nicholas (Nick) Ruddell tana ingoa.
He uri ia no Ngapuhi.
He kairangahau Maori, he pukenga hoki ia i Te Kura o Nga Akoranga o te Ao Taketake, Te Whare Wananga o Charles Sturt.

As a Maori researcher within the School of Indigenous Australian Studies at Charles Sturt University (CSU), Nick’s research is guided by Indigenous relational theory that emphasises interconnectedness, accountability and collective knowledge sharing. Nick strives to uphold reflexive and culturally responsive practices that align with CSU’s ethos of Wiradyuri Yindyamarra Winhanganha - to create a world worth living in.

This commitment ensures that his work is both culturally grounded and globally relevant, advancing the aspirations of First Nations people and peoples through meaningful and ethical research engagements. Nick works to understand knowledge systems and enjoys looking at approaches that assist and monitor how peoples, institutions and communities can exchange and respect knowledge and perspectives, particularly inside the contested space between Western and Indigenous knowledge systems.

Nick has been managing, developing and teaching subjects since 2013. He has gained experience working with student cohorts through the lens of his upbringing. That is to say, he has forged relationships based on respect for Whanau (family), hapori (community) the whenua (land) and Moana (the sea). Nick has accumulated professional teaching and supervising experiences in undergraduate, post-graduate and PhD levels. Areas of experience are:

  • Critical Indigenous Studies
  • Intercultural Education
  • Indigenous and Indigenist Research Methodologies (practices and approaches)
