Roslyn has worked in communication for more than 25 years in a range of industries and roles including media relations, public health, health promotion, crisis management, university marketing, corporate communication, event management, client service, corporate business development, not-for-profit services and corporate communication.
Since joining CSU in 2011, Roslyn has taught public relations strategy and tactics, communication management, events management, internship placement and introductory communication subjects.
Roslyn has a great passion for communication and believes that skills and abilities in this field can be a person’s passport to a wonderfully rewarding career and limitless opportunities.
“The ability to communicate, to write well, to craft messages, to understand and connect with audiences, to really listen, to harness technology and the incredible interconnectedness of our modern world, means that communication skills have enormous importance and value,” she says.
Roslyn finds the teaching element of academic life really rewarding and greatly enjoys the opportunity to share her knowledge about communication with others. She believes in interactive and experiential teaching.
“In my experience, it can be incredibly powerful to build and deliver subjects for students in a way that unites the important theoretical foundations of communication with practical, real-world experiences and understandings. I know that CSU communication graduates leave our university as accomplished and highly capable people and I am very proud to play a role in their journey,” she says.
Roslyn is studying for a Doctorate of Communication and is due to complete her dissertation in 2019. Her doctoral research explores the changing nature of crisis management and crisis response in the online environment, investigating online crisis through a case study of the immunisation issue in Australia. In 2012 Roslyn completed an Honours degree researching the impact of social media in crisis management and organisational response.
