Dr Jane Garner is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Information & Communication Studies at Charles Sturt University.

Jane received her PhD from RMIT University in 2017. She also holds a Bachelor of Business, Information and Library Management from RMIT University, and is an Australian Research Council DECRA Fellow.

Prior to starting at CSU, Jane worked in the Information Management team at RMIT University, teaching into their Masters of Information Management program. Jane has also undertaken sessional roles in information studies schools at Monash University and CSU.

Before commencing her teaching roles, Jane worked as an academic librarian at the University of Melbourne.

Jane’s research focuses on the delivery of library and information services to undeserved and underprivileged communities. She is particularly interested in the role of books, libraries, reading and education in adult and juvenile prisons. She is also undertaking research focussing on the relationship between public libraries and people experiencing homelessness.

Areas of supervision include: Library services to the disadvantaged and underserved, community interactions, professional development of GLAM workers, and the use of social media by the GLAM sector to interact with communities.

Dr Garner is not currently undertaking any teaching while she completes a research project.
