Master of Animation (UTS 2009) Rachel has a background in film and television production, having worked as a promo producer, editor, copywriter, and creative director. Seeking to advance herself through postgraduate study, she was drawn into the curious world of animation. Since achieving a Master of Animation in 2009 (UTS), Rachel has supplemented her film and television work with a growing body of traditional and digital animation for screen, installation, and environmental projection. She is a member of art collective tranSTURM, which creates site-specific installations that combine animated projection, lighting, and sculptural elements. Her PhD research seeks to articulate intersections of abstract animation and orthodox screen language. Rachel teaches subjects related to screen media production encompassing workflows for video, inclusive of compositing and animation / motion graphics. Her emphasis on theoretical and historical inputs to craft inform her subject design work and brings a rounded understanding of methodologies to students. She has previously taught subjects in art and design history, animation history, and film theory. Rachel has taught undergraduate and postgraduate cohorts. Rachel’s main interest is aligned to her PhD research into abstract animation, which is an extension of work in her Masters, which focused on visual music. Rachel’s PhD research seeks to articulate intersections of abstract animation and orthodox screen language. It is due for submission late 2023. Rachel maintains membership in scholarship societies focused on areas of study connected to her research:Teaching and Research Staff
