Before beginning this placement, you must ensure that:

• You have completed your Student Agreement Declaration.
• Your Working with Children Check is valid until at least the end date of the placement.
• Your anaphylaxis training certificate is valid until at least the end date of the placement.
• Your E-Learning Child Protection training certificate is valid until at least the end date of the placement.
• Completed any prerequisite study/placements.
• Uploaded the documents and applied through InPlace

It is the responsibility of Workplace Learning Team to arrange placements for students. Students can be placed only where a school/service has made an offer to host a student for a particular placement.

All teacher education students should be aware that contact with schools/services, other than during the official practicum teaching sessions, will not be sanctioned by the university. Teacher education student must not approach any member of a school staff without prior approval of the Professional Experience and Partnerships Coordinator or representative on their home campus. Breaches of this rule are a breach of the Student Charter.

Self Selection with InPlace

Teacher education students enrolled in on-campus courses select their placements using the InPlace placement management system. Available places are dependent on offers made by schools /services. teacher education students need to be fully aware that undertaking professional experience may require that they live away from home or campus in order to be placed in an available school or setting appropriate to their course. It is therefore necessary that students consider in advance the necessary planning and budgeting required to ensure that they are able to fulfil the professional experience requirements of their course.

Please follow the steps below to ensure your placement goes smoothly and you fulfil the requirements of the subject.

Have you met have the necessary requirements to undertake this placement?

There may be prerequisite courses or other requirements, such as a Working with Children Check and anaphylaxis training, you must have met before beginning this placement. Please ensure you have met all requirements. If you are unsure, contact the course administrative office for your course.

Please do not apply to undertake professional experience until you have successfully completed all required prerequisites. You will need to apply to the Course Director for a waiver.

What do I need to do to prepare for my school placement?

Once you have received notification of the school where you will be undertaking your placement make contact with the school Professional Experience Coordinator and if possible your Supervising Teacher at least one week prior to the commencement of your placement.

Clarify:

• what time you are required to be there on your first day
• where you should go and
• who you should ask to see upon your arrival.

Ensure you are also aware of the dress code.

Prior to the commencement of your placement:

• Read the Guide to Professional Experience and the associated tasks
• Complete any tasks that are to be done prior to starting the placement
• Set up a digital signature for signing your documents

What do I do on my first day of placement?

• Provide a copy of your Placement Attendance Record sheet
• Arrive early
• Let the Principal /Professional Experience Coordinator know you are there
• Confirm that the Supervising Teacher has been able to access the Supervising Teacher web page

What do I need to to during the remainder of my placement?

• Refer to Summary of Expectations in Professional Experience
• Commence work on your tasks
• Make contact with your University Liaison Officer in the first week
• Prior to the mid-session discussion with your Supervising Teacher, review your progress against the focus areas in the combined mid-session/final report.
• At the completion of your placement work with your Supervising Teacher to complete the Final report. Ensure you see and sign off on report and keep a copy.
• Ensure your Attendance record is completed and signed
• Email completed tasks to your Subject Coordinator if required
• Don't forget to thank your Supervising Teacher, Principal and other staff for their assistance during your placement.
