Child, Family, Community: Violence and Wellbeing

This stream focuses on accelerating evidence-based research that promotes the safety, wellbeing and resilience of children, families and communities. Researchers conduct innovative research to advance understanding of the complexity of violence against women and children, and develop culturally appropriate, trauma-informed, and evidence-based strategies for preventing violence and promoting recovery from violence.

Our researchers collaborate with social service and community-based organizations within and outside Australia to co-produce evidence and translate them to inform policy and practice. Key areas of research include:

  • Domestic and family violence
  • Child protection (aka child welfare)
  • Violence against children and women
  • Intimate partner violence
  • Out-of-home care (kinship care, foster care, residential care)
  • Mental health
  • Rural child welfare
  • Child maltreatment (Child abuse and neglect)
  • Adverse childhood experiences
  • Child, family and community resilience
  • Trauma-informed practice
