EdD, MEd (PE), Grad Cert (ULM) Grad Cert (Higher Ed), Grad Dip Ed (PDHPE), B Soc Sci (H Mov't) Matt Winslade is the Associate Dean, Research for the Faculty of Arts and Education. Matt has a strong educational background with over twenty five years of teaching experience in the HPE and WIL field. Prior to moving into the tertiary sector, he was both a Head Teacher in the state system and a Director of Sport in the Association of Independent schools. Matt has been awarded an Australian Council of Deans of Education award through the Australian Association for Research in Education and has received a citation for outstanding contribution to student learning. Matt's doctoral research examined the changing nature of Health and Physical Education in Australian schools. His current research activities include evaluating school - university partnerships and international school based health and physical activity programs. Matt also has a strong interest in exploring the development of inter-cultural competency in pre-service teachers and has created multiple international outreach programs to support this interest. Matt currently sits on the executive and editorial board of NAFEA and is the NSW state delegate to NADPE. Matt has authored five books (with a 6th in progress) and in 2018 his joint publication titled Teaching Quality Health and Physical Education designed to support both teacher education students and in-service teachers was awarded Best Tertiary Teaching and Learning Resource at the Australian Educational Publishing Awards. In 2022, Matt received a University Excellence Award for his contribution to the Ambassador School’s Research Centre. Matt is currently leading a state-wide, multi-university WIL research project focusing on the quality of supervising mentors in professional experience. Matt's research focus relates to the fields of WIL, ITE, (H)PETE, inter and cultural competency, health promotion in schools and the HPE curriculum. Matt's doctoral research examined the changing nature of Personal Development, Health, and Physical Education in NSW secondary schools. His research into inter-cultural competence is supported, through the New Colombo Plan, working closely with Fiji National University and schools. Matt also works with a range of sporting organisations to provide an international framework for HPE students to develop inter-cultural competence and global citizenship. In addition, this collaboration is exploring ways to increase physical activity levels of Fijian students through school focused programs. Matt has been a member of the Head Strong research team, a collaborative research initiative between CSU, the Black Dog Institute and the University of New South Wales investigating issues relating to mental health within regional secondary schools and the SunSmart research team, (CSU, the NSW Cancer Council, Macquarie University and Sydney University) investigating the efficacy of sun protection policy and programs in primary schools. In his previous capacity as the Sub Dean and then Associate head of education (Workplace Learning) with the Faculty of Arts and Education Matt has led a range of CSU/Department of Education HUB initiatives exploring school – university partnerships in a regional context with a focus on professional experience.
