EPT510

Master of Teaching (Primary)

Thank you for Supporting CSU's Professional Experience Program

We appreciate your participation in Charles Sturt University's (CSU) Faculty of Arts and Education Professional Experience Program.

Before placement begins, supervising teachers are encouraged to review AITSL's 'Components of Effective, High-Quality Professional Experience' (Section 4) for guidance on best practices in supervision. Below, you'll find key information and links to essential documents needed to support your CSU pre-service teacher (PST).

Teaching Progression

During this professional experience placement teacher education students will need to move through the following Progression of Teaching for EPT510 3 Week /Progression of Teaching for EPT510 4 Week . The teaching responsibilities are the suggested minimum requirement and may need to be adjusted in response to the needs, context, development and progress of the teacher education student.

Daily Feedback Sheets

You are required to fill out a Lesson Feedback Sheet (download sheet) for lessons undertaken by teacher education students throughout their placement. These need to be signed by you and teacher education student.

Review at Mid-Placement

At the mid-point of the placement, you are asked to engage with the teacher education student in a collaborative review of their progress to date with reference to the Professional Experience Report in order to identify demonstrated strengths and areas for further development through the placement. The date and progress are noted as part of the documentation on the front page of the report.

Any Concerns

Should there be any concerns regarding the teacher education student's progress, please complete the Notification of Concern Form as a matter of urgency and email it to the Workplace Learning Team at FOAE-WPL@csu.edu.au. If there are no concerns this form does not need to be returned.

Addressing Placement Concerns

If you or the University Liaison Officer (ULO) have concerns regarding a pre-service teacher's conduct or competency during placement, please take the following steps as soon as possible.

Concerns About Professionalism

If concerns arise regarding the professional conduct of a pre-service teacher (PST):

  • First, contact the ULO to discuss strategies for improvement.
  • If concerns persist, email the Workplace Learning Team at FOAE-WPL@csu.edu.au. A Workplace Learning Coordinator will then provide further guidance.

Concerns About Competency & AITSL Teaching Standards

Concerns related to a PST’s ability to meet the AITSL Teaching Standards must be addressed through the Student Placement Support and Review Process (SPSRP).

  • In consultation with the ULO, implement the SPSRP to support the PST’s progress.
  • Early intervention is key—raising concerns before the mid-placement review provides the PST the best opportunity for improvement.
  • The SPSRP can be formalised at any stage of the placement if necessary.

Supporting SPSRP Documentation:

Primary or Secondary Daily Feedback Sheet. One of these should be completed by the supervising teacher each day.

Student Leave of Absence Form. All Absences must be followed by the submission of documentary evidence (eg: medical certificate) in addition to this form and returned without delay to the Workplace Learning Team: FOAE-WPL@csu.edu.au
