Principal Supervisor: Dr Suleyman Sertkaya
Co-Supervisor: Dr Sadeq Ansari
This research explores the disconnect between classical Islamic jurisprudential texts (fiqh) and contemporary legal rulings (fatwa) in their approach to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and mental illness more broadly. This research also explores the disconnect between contemporary psychological modalities/therapies and Islamic psychology’s past through the works of scholars such as Abu Zayd al-Balkhi (d. 934).
